Upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage (bleeding in the esophagus, stomach or duodenum) is a common medical emergency requiring urgent treatment. While endoscopy has proven to be lifesaving in many instances, the role of proton pump inhibitors (PPI) as an adjunctive therapy is also very important.

 

In his talk, Dr Chua Tju Siang presented the latest evidence and research on PPI usage in patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB). He summarized his findings with a simple algorithm that is easy to apply in UGIB cases.
